Franklin Wins Award for Sesquicentennial Program

A television program produced by the City of Franklin promoting the City’s historic parks and events happening for the Sesquicentennial has won the Four Star Award from the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association for excellence in Parks and Recreation Digital Marketing.

This outstanding achievement was recognized during the association’s 63rd Annual Conference in Nashville in late November.  The Four Star Awards recognize excellence in programming, marketing, renovated and new facility design; as well as individual service and benefactor awards for community partners.

The “Road to the 150th” program was hosted by Mayor Ken Moore and Parks Director Lisa Clayton.  Also contributing stories were local historian Thomas Flagel, Parks and Recreation Foreman Deanna Scheffel and Communications Manager Milissa Reierson.  The featured guests on the program were local author/preservationist Robert Hicks, Tourism Commissioner Susan Whitaker, Williamson Convention and Visitors Bureau President/CEO Ellie Westman Chin, and historian/Chief Executive Officer Battle of Franklin Trust’s Eric Jacobson.

“Franklin’s history is an attraction to many heritage tourists and history buffs, but many in our own city may not know about our historic parks and the history that happened in our home town,” said Parks Director Lisa Clayton.  “This ‘Road to the 150th’ program is an educational program and also informed viewers about the many events happening in our parks and elsewhere as we counted down to the 150thanniversary of the Battle of Franklin.”
