Collect a Big Payday by Selling Old iPods

Outdated technology often gets pushed to the back of your “junk drawer”, never to be seen again.

But certain versions of the iPod and the first version of the iPhone are often sought after and you could score a large paycheck by selling yours.

The first Apple MP3 player hit the market in 2001 selling for $399. Changing the entire landscape of how users partake of music, it could be said this is one of the most influentially pieces of technology introduced to the market.

The Guardian recently searched eBay for Apple collectibles. Listings include: a factory-sealed third-generation iPod Shuffle for $1,000; a silver first-gen iPod mini for $2,500; a first-gen iPod for $10,000; and a never-opened second-gen iPod for $20,000. Common among all of the listings-  condition and rarity of the device. Original packaging means the price goes up.

So while some of us can’t wait to upgrade to the latest products, there are others who see the older versions of Apple products as collectibles, often buying products that will never be opened or used.
