My father was a Korean War veteran. Many of us know personally the lost of a loved one who served this country,or , we have someone close who has suffered that loss. It’s not just a “3 Day Weekend”. It’s a time to remember. It’s a time to teach our children. It’s a time to be thankful. We’d like to say we all do this every day, sadly in our busy lives most do not , at least I can personally say I have failed at it. But today, between the grilling and parties, let’s take a few minutes to do all of these things.
Just A Common Soldier, also known as “A Soldier Died Today”, is one of the most popular poems on the Internet. Written and published in 1987 by Canadian veteran and columnist A. Lawrence Vaincourt, it now appears in numerous anthologies, on thousands of websites and on July 4, 2008 it was carved into a marble monument at West Point, New York. This year marks the poem’s 25th anniversary.
Williamson Source would like to thank the servicemen and servicewomen who have served our country. Those who have lost lives and those fortunate enough to still be with us. Enjoy this day with your families, but remember why you have the freedom to do so.
