Wear Red This Friday – Support The American Heart Association

Help raise awareness this Friday and join millions as they wear red in support of the American Heart Association’s 10th Annual “National Wear Red Day” to support women’s heart disease.

O’More College is supporting the cause and will celebrate in association with the Downtown Franklin Association and the Franklin Art Scene from 6-9 p.m. this Friday, February 1st.  The college is also celebrating the appointment of Shari Fox as Executive Vice President.

Featured artists this month are Peter Fleming and Lesley Patterson-Marx. Fleming will be exhibiting his work in handcrafted furniture and Paterson-Marx will showcase mixed-media and book arts. You can find out more about both of them here.

“The DFA always hopes to work with local organizations to raise awareness for the good of the community, in every way we can,” said Nancy Williams, director of the DFA. “Our members have shown a lot of interest in participating in Wear Red Day, and it’s an easy way for downtown businesses to make an impact.”

Many are taking it a step farther with heart themed displays. Jack Yacoubian Jewelers is holding a special giveaway, announced during the art crawl, in honor of National Wear Red Day. Any guest who wears the designated color in his shop on Friday will be entered into a drawing to win a woman’s Citizen Luxury watch.

Gallery 202 on Second Avenue South will host Chattanooga native Susan Parry and her hand-blown “Key To My Heart” jewelry pieces during Friday’s event.

“This is a perfect opportunity for our community to showcase art for the heart,” said Kelly Harwood, gallery owner and Franklin Art Scene committee member. “It’s a great tie-in, and a cause I believe many people connect with.”

As always the $5 trolley will take you to every stop throughout the evening, so find a good parking place and enjoy your night. The Franklin Art Scene also has an App available via Google Play or scan the QR code on their home page to access from your iPhone.
