It’s common practice to winterize your homes, but do you make sure your car is ready for the winter? As you get ready for your holiday travels, check out these winter car tips, provided by the service department at Darrell Waltrip Automotive.
1. Check your tires for correct air pressure and tread
Your tire pressure drops by 1lb every 10 degree drop in temperature. Newer cars have tire pressure sensors reminding you to check that pressure. Don’t forget about your spare tire while checking air pressure.
2. Check your fluids
Make sure your windshield wiper fluid is full. On a winter day, you can easily go thru a half gallon of fluid while keeping your windshield clean. Also, your anti-freeze fluid should be checked.
3. Windshield wiper blades
Make sure those wipers are in good working order. When you turn your car off, be sure to turn off the wipers so they will not freeze to your windshield.
4. Have your car battery tested
Batteries lose power when the temperatures drop. If you have a low cell in your battery, you may be left stranded with a dead battery.
5. Have an emergency kit in your car
Your kit should include a blanket, flashlight, first aid kit and an emergency triangle.
