3. Religion & Extraterrestrial Life: How will we deal with it?
1 p.m. Friday, March 20, in the Meeting Room. Is Earth the only planet with life? Mars has remnants of life, according to scientists; perhaps other planets will too. But what if we find actual life, current life, on other planets? How will we deal with meeting or finding another intelligent race? Will our theories of religion withstand this new information?
David Weintraub, Associate Professor of Astronomy at Vanderbilt, has been pondering this question and will talk about life on other planets and how this knowledge might affect our current reality and beliefs. Professor Weintraub will also include what many of the religions of the world have written or drawn about extraterrestrial life.
