4 Steps to Good Running Form

Fleet Feet

Whether you’re an avid runner or just a beginner, having proper form when running is crucial to prevent injury.

Local running experts, Fleet Feet, gives us four simple steps to good running form.

Posture – Make sure you are standing tall. Point your toes forward and reach for the sky to reset your posture. As you run, keep your head up and your gaze forward.

Midfoot- March in place prior to your run to reinforce the proper midfoot strike. Be aware of landing on your forefoot can cause strain on the calves and achilles.

Cadence– Your goal is to aim for 180 cadence per minute. To help find your cadence, count the number of right foot strikes for 30 seconds and then multiply by 6.

Lean– You should be leaning from your ankles and not your waist. Flexing at the ankles reduces unnecessary muscle strain.Fleet Feet

You can see at the bottom of the info graphic how common running form leads to inefficient effort, braking forces and many common injuries. By using good running form with a tall body form alignment, you are less likely to incur an injury.
