The City of Franklin makes it easy to stay-up-to-date on what’s happening in Franklin, with their weekly Facebook Live posts titled “Top 3 Things to Know With Eric Stuckey” that highlights some of the most important things happening in Franklin. This week, the focus is on parking. Here are three things you need to know about parking in downtown Franklin.

REAL-TIME FRANKLIN PARKING GARAGE UPDATES

1. New Upgrades to 2nd Avenue Parking Garage. A new feature has been added to the free parking garage located at 108 2nd Avenue South. Recently, a pedestrian opening was added to the garage at the exit point of the garage so that pedestrians no longer have to use the same entrance and exit as cars, making the garage safer for pedestrians.

2. A New System that Identifies Open Parking Spaces. If you’ve ever tried to park in one of the free garages and traveled all the way to the top only to find out it’s full, the city wants to change that. This week, they are testing a new system that will tell drivers where parking is available in the free parking garages. Stuckey says drivers would be able to access this information online and through an app. Plus, there will be signs outside of the garage indicating where parking is available.

3. Main Street Parking Time Limits Could Change. The Board of Mayor and Alderman have taken into consideration a time limit on parking along Main Street in downtown Franklin. Currently, you can park for free for up to four hours; it has been proposed to change that time limit to two hours.

  1. For people who work on Main St and have to either pay to park, or move our cars every fours hours so we wont get a ticket, its really unfair. Something needs to be done to accommodate employees of the shops in Franklin
