Yellow Jackets Paddle Harpeth

After clinching second place in Region 6-3A last week, Fairview beat Harpeth on the road in a shootout 49-34. The Yellow Jackets used their ground game to run past the Indians to close out the regular season and keep Harpeth out of the 3A playoffs.

The first quarter was a struggle for both offenses, with the only points coming on a 4-yard Jake Beathard touchdown run. The second quarter would open up with a Harpeth touchdown to tie the game at 7. Hunter Zimmerman would put the Jackets back on top with a 3-yard touchdown run of his own. 15 seconds later, Fairview would take advantage of a Harpeth fumble with a 31-yard Jake Beathard run to put Fairview up 21-7. After stopping the Indian offense again, Fairview’s Hunter Caldwell would get in on the scoring act with a 4-yard touchdown run. Harpeth would add a touchdown before the half to send the teams into the break with Fairview leading 28-14.

Hunter Caldwell would break free for a 49-yard run on the open drive of the second half, before finishing the drive with a 1-yard touchdown plunge. Harpeth would respond on their next drive with a touchdown of their own, but Jake Beathard would quickly stop any hopes of an Indian rally. Fairview’s big play back ran for an 80-yard touchdown run. Harpeth would score before the end of the quarter to make it 42-27. Early in the fourth quarter, Zimmerman would take to the air for the score with a 15 yard touchdown pass to Sam Sanborn. Harpeth would add one more score, but be unable to complete their attempted comeback.

The win improved the Yellow Jackets record to 7-3, 5-1 in Region 6-3A. Fairview returns home next week for the first round of the playoffs against Stratford.
