Tennesseans Can Now Renew License Every 8 Years

Effective, January 1st 2016, Tennesseans will now have to renew their license every 8 years instead of five.

Announced by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security extended renewal of license will include all classifications of driver license and identification licenses.

Legislation increasing the renewal years was passed during  the 2015 legislative session and was sponsored by Senator Frank Nicely along with Representative Tilman  and Goins with a goal to improve customer traffic flow at service centers.

“This is another step to improve the quality of our driver services and help better serve the existing population as well as plan for future growth here in Tennessee,” Commissioner Bill Gibbons said in a news release. “It’s our goal to enhance our driver services and provide convenient options for our customers.”
