During the 2015 Fill the Boot fundraising campaign, 38 members of the Spring Hill Fire Department and the Local 4628 fire union raised $13,098, rallying behind a 60-year tradition supporting the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
They collected money every Saturday in May to help save and improve the lives of people fighting muscle disease in the Central Tennessee area. Muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other related life-threatening diseases take away peopleās ability to walk, move, smile, talk and even breathe.
āFor six decades, fire fighters have fueled MDA’s mission to find treatments and curesĀ for life-threatening muscle diseases, and this yearās Spring Hill Fill the Boot results are a perfectĀ example of the true dedication Spring Hillās Fire Department has toward supporting the familiesĀ we serve,ā said MDA Executive Director, Ashley Davis. āWeāre grateful for the support of these
inspiring, selfless individuals who provide life-saving help that will fund research, advocate forĀ children and adults affected by muscle disease, and rally our community to fight back.ā
Funds raised through 2015 Spring Hill Fill the Boot events build on decades of researchĀ progress, helping push science to its limits in the search for treatments and cures.Ā Dollars raised also help support MDAās life-enhancing programs such as state-of-the-artĀ support groups and clinics, including the MDA and ALS Clinic at Vanderbilt University MedicalĀ Center in Nashville. They also make MDA summer camp possible so kids with muscle diseaseĀ can enjoy āthe best week of the yearā at Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville, KY andĀ nearly 80 other locations nationwide.
