May Brings Abundance Series Part 2
National Salsa Month is May and with it comes an abundance of favorite salsa recipes from flavorful to on fire. To some salsa is a condiment but to others it is a food group so take some time this week and explore some of the salsa available in Williamson County.
We suggest you start at your favorite Mexican restaurant and enjoy a basket of chips before moving on to our favorites or making your own at home. Salsa is actually any of a variety of sauces with Spanish, Italian or Latin American origin. In America it usually refers to the old standard Salsa Rojo or “red sauce.” This is popular in Mexican and southwestern cuisine. Pico de gallo or Spanish for “Rooster’s Beak” is a favorite in the area and every restaurant makes it differently with tomato, onion, chiles, lime juice, cilantro, and much more.
Try the Salsa at Garcia’s on Murfreesboro road and then hit La Hacienda on Hillsboro and tell us what you like about each? If you are in Brentwood you can’t go wrong with a visit to Local Taco for a truly fresh taste and unique style. These places are great if you want a fast fix for your salsa craving but really great salsa takes a personal touch.
For your next party or gathering whip up a salsa of your own and ask your friends to do the same. A salsa sampling event is a great way to enjoy time with friends and find out who the best salsa maker in your crew might be. Recipes to get you started can be found all over the internet. Check out Eat More Heat for a listing of various salsas you can make and some history on the National Salsa Month event. Food Network collected some of their most popular salsa recipes and you can find them here.
When you find your perfect blend please forward your recipe to us and we will post it online so others can enjoy your creation.
