Almost a year to the day from the groundbreaking on the multi-purpose equestrian arena at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, the Tractor Supply Co. Arena is nearly complete. Now the non-profit organization Friends of Franklin Parks has set its sights on the historic mare barn just adjacent to the new Arena.
A Community Work Day has been scheduled for Saturday, March 5, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to join Friends supporters and City of Franklin Parks staff to get the stalls ready for horses this spring, and to prepare the exterior of the historic barn for paint.
“The interior structural components of the stalls are done, and the electrical and plumbing have been updated. We need to level the footing in the stalls and get them safe for horse use, and get the outside of the building painted,” said Dr. Monty McInturff of Tennessee Equine Hospital, who serves as president of the Board for Friends of Franklin Parks. “So many people have asked to get involved, and we invite families and people of all ages to join us. By the end of this work day, we should be ready to bring the horses back to Harlinsdale.”
All supplies will be provided, along with refreshments. Tools will be furnished as well, although participants are welcome to bring shovels and rakes, along with gloves, closed-toed shoes and eye protection.
As part of the fundraising effort, Friends of Franklin Parks is also offering limited opportunities for mare barn sponsorships. A $500 tax-deductible contribution includes a stall sponsorship for three years, including a plaque featuring your name. Those contributing $250 (also tax-deductible) will be featured on a Barn Sponsor sign within the facility.
Friends of Franklin Parks was founded in 2011 with a mission to enhance Franklin’s city parks with private dollars. Over the course of three years, the non-profit has raised more than $1 million from individual, corporate and organizational partners, with proceeds focused on the construction of the new Tractor Supply Co. Arena at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm. To learn more, visit www.tractorsupplycoarena.com.
