Franklin Remembers 9/11 Outside Police HQ

Franklin 9/11 ceremony

Franklin Police Officers and Firefighters paid memorial to the anniversary of 9/11 Monday morning at police headquarters.

The ceremony, to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001 attacks on America, included short speeches by Mayor Dr. Ken Moore, Franklin Police Chief Deb Faulkner and Franklin Fire Chief Rocky Garzarek.

“The whole world witnessed how the American spirit lifted us up and our faith carried us through, we shall never forget,” said Faulkner.

“I am so proud to stand up here today,” Garzarek said.

Twin fire engines parked back-to-back on Columbia Avenue in front of the steps of the police station. Between them, hoisted high above the street, was a large American flag flapping in the wind.

The short ceremony started with a bagpipe and an honor guard who marched up to the front of the headquarters and raised the American flag to half-mast.

An invocation preceded words by the speakers, in a quick but heartfelt and meaningful convocation of the lives lost and spirit gained 16 years ago.
