Ming Wang

By Ashley Irwin

Tonight, Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30pm, Dr. Ming Wang will hold a book launch party for his autobiography From Darkness To Sight at Generations Church in downtown Franklin.

From Darkness to Sight tells the story of Dr. Wang’s difficult childhood during the Cultural Revolution in China and his emotional journey to the United States. For Dr. Wang, writing his autobiography was about more than just sharing his personal story; he also wanted to relay an important message to today’s youth.

“I want the young people today in America to feel the pain and suffering of another youngster, who had suffered so much, and who had so little, who as a teenager was stripped of all opportunity for education…all to try to avoid deportation.” Wang believes that if the younger generation of Americans today can see and understand the pain and hardship that other young people had to overcome in other parts of the world, that young Americans can begin to believe more in themselves and the opportunities that they are given.

“Young people today have the freedom to go to school and to be educated, a freedom that was not available to me as a teenager in Communist China during the Cultural Revolution.” Education is still not available to many young people around the globe, and Dr. Ming Wang hopes that his autobiography can motivate young Americans to work harder in school and in every other aspect of their lives.

Education is still not available to many young people around the globe, and Dr. Ming Wang hopes that his autobiography can motivate young Americans to work harder in school and in every other aspect of their lives, and to appreciate what they have in America today.

From his childhood in China to his move to the United States and to his successes as a leading eye surgeon, each chapter of From Darkness to Sight highlights pivotal moments in Dr. Wang’s life and he hopes each chapter provides hope and motivation to its readers.

The book launch party will take place on Thursday, Nov. 3rd at 6:30pm at Generations Church at 408 Church St. in Franklin. Register for the event here. At the event, there will also be a drawing for a free 3D LASIK performed by Dr. Wang. Patrons can also enjoy food, drinks, and music.
