Dickens of a Christmas Adds Ice Rink to Annual Holiday Event

Dickens of a Christmas, downtown Franklin’s annual holiday event, offers a new experience this year. This year’s event, taking place Saturday, Dec 9-Sunday, Dec 10, will feature an ice rink.

“We are always wanting to add something new to our festivals. We are so excited we are able to bring this attraction to our event, who would not want to skate under the stars” said Teryl O’Connor, Director of Festivals and Events.

The new attraction will be located next to City Hall in Public Square. If you have visited Opryland Hotel during the holiday, the rink will be comparable to the one there, meaning artificial but skateable ice. There will be a minimal fee of $5 to skate and skate rentals will cost $5, or you can bring your skates. A signed waiver will be required to skate which can be filled out online. Bring the waiver with you to the event.

First Citizens National Bank will sponsor Dickens of a Christmas, one of downtown Franklin’s four signature festivals produced by the Heritage Foundation. First Citizens has signed on as a partner of the preservation organization through 2019.

“We are thrilled to have First Citizens National Bank as our presenting sponsor for Dickens of a Christmas,” said Bari Beasley, CEO of the Heritage Foundation. “Our team is grateful for the bank’s hands-on approach to sponsoring this key event, and we look forward to their assistance in filling downtown Franklin with holiday cheer on Dec. 9 and 10.”

In addition to the ice skating, Dickens of a Christmas will have more than 200 musicians, dancers and characters will fill the streets, along with holiday sugar plums and 100 other vendors offering holiday arts and crafts.
