Centennial High School announced the hiring of its new head softball coach.
Nicole Fougerousse has been named to the position. She brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience both at the high school and college levels. She will also be the new JTG teacher at CHS, replacing retiring Debra Odom.
After starring in both softball and basketball at Shakamak High School in Southern Indiana, she went on to continue her softball career at Indiana State University.
Following her playing career, she entered the coaching ranks as an assistant at Linton High School, also in Southern Indiana, where she assisted on a varsity softball team that achieved a 24-1 record and an Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) state runner-up finish.
In addition to her softball duties at Linton, she also served as the assistant on the varsity basketball team which won a sectional championship, as well.
From Linton she moved on to become the head softball coach at Bloomfield High School, also in Southern Indiana. She served as head coach there for five years, and her teams won a share of the conference championship in the spring of 2014 and were sectional champions in 2015. She amassed a 63-45 record at Bloomfield.
Fougerousse’s most recent experience comes at Tennessee State University, where she served as an assistant coach this past season. At TSU she assisted in the recruitment of players, planning and running practices and worked directly with the pitchers and catchers. Additionally, she oversaw all team fundraising efforts including the organization and supervision of all softball camps.
“Coach Fougerousse brings the knowledge, passion and love of the game that we know will take CHS softball to the next level,” Centennial Athletic Director Tony Hill said. “She stood out immediately in our coaching search due to success she has experienced as a head softball coach and her passion for developing young players within our program. We are looking forward to seeing the new face of CHS softball hit the field this spring.”
