Baseball: Chargers split doubleheader

Columbia State split a doubleheader on Friday with the No. 10 ranked Warriors of Wabash Valley.

In Game 1, Columbia State holds off a late rally after jumping out to a early 9-1 lead. A three-run Wabash 8th inning closed the gap and would give you the final of 9-6.

Delgado, Swayze, Walker and Gentry collected two hits each. Scooter Hightower gets his second win of the year going 4 innings and punching out 9. Will Snider worked the ninth, picking up the save.

In the nightcap, the Warriors followed their Game 1 trend by beating up on the Columbia State bullpen. Starter Cody Puckett struck out four in his three innings of work leaving the game with a 3-1 advantage.

Wabash Valley would plate five runs in the final three innings, winning 8-4. Riley Delgado again paced the home team with two hits. Brandon Smith is tagged with the loss in relief.

Chargers will host Wallace Hanceville on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
