The Tennessee Agricultural Museum invites all ages to attend an upcoming book fair fundraiser at the Barnes and Noble book store, located at 1701 Mallory Lane in Brentwood on April 2 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. CDT.
Visual and hands-on events will be happening all afternoon. Museum staff and volunteers will be on site to demonstrate the spinning wheel and other crafts, attendees will get a chance to see some of the museum’s artifacts, and kids are invited to participate in a corn shuck figurine class.
Local author Jerry Park will sign copies of his book, “Slow Roads Tennessee” from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. and a banjo player will perform from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
A portion of sales that afternoon will go to support the Oscar L. Farris Agricultural Museum Association’s educational outreach. Gift cards and Nook items are excluded. Purchases can also be made online April 2-7. Visit http://bn.com/bookfairs and enter book fair ID 11818291 at checkout.
The Tennessee Agricultural Museum is located on the grounds of the Ellington Agricultural Center, located at 440 Hogan Road in Nashville. Exhibited in a renovated horse stable, the museum has an extensive collection of home and farm artifacts from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The museum features textiles, a woodworking collection, blacksmith shop, wagons and large equipment such as a Jumbo steam engine. The experience continues outdoors with log cabins, a farm house, one-room school, gardens and nature trails.
The museum is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., except for state holidays. Self-guided tours are free for individuals. Group reservations are required with a small fee for demonstrations and educational programs.
