Vanessa Pettigrew Bryan, Public Defender for Tennessee’s 21st Judicial District, delivered the Keynote Address at the National Legal Aid and Defender Association’s Student Legal Services Conference held in Nashville on July 20, 2015. Her speech addressed the holistic approach she has developed to help defendants receive needed medical and professional care for PTSD and other trauma-induced behavior.

The National Legal Aid and Defender Association is the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit association devoted to excellence in the delivery of legal services for those who cannot afford counsel. Many colleges and universities sponsor departments of Student Legal Services to assist students with their legal challenges.

Tennessee’s 21st Judicial District includes Williamson, Hickman, Lewis and Perry counties.
