A man with cancer, riding a bike across the country to raise awareness for the disease, was held up at gunpoint in broad daylight Wednesday in Columbia.

It happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 43 and Highway 7 in Columbia.

The man, who News 2 is choosing not to identify, was riding his bicycle down Highway 43 and turned onto Route 7.

The man was pulling a small trailer behind him with a sign that reads, “Riding for a cure. My bucket list. A 5,000 mile journey”

According to police, that’s when a blue Toyota Corolla pulled up behind the cancer patient and honked the horn. The bike rider walked to the car and the driver put a gun in his face, stealing the man’s cash.

He is driving a 1990s blue Toyota Corolla.
