Longtime Brentwood Restaurant Reveals New Name

Le Skewer

Kalamatas in Brentwood, which has been open in the same spot in the Brentwood Place Shopping Center for 10 years, is making some major changes. In addition to expanding their menu and updating the inside, Kalamatas has officially changed their name to Le Skewer. The new sign was placed on the building Tuesday.

Owner/Executive Chef Will Zaitz and General Manager Ghada Fawaz say they are taking things to the “next level” with the changes.

Building upon the Mediterranean menu, Le Skewer will offer familiar items to customers such as gyros and grilled chicken pita. They have expanded the menu to include a section called “on a bun” where you can order a falafel burger, in-house made turkey burger and Arabic lamb burger which consists of ground lamb with seven different spices topped with feta cheese. The menu also includes an “After 5” section with five different entrees all priced under $20. Selections include smoked lamb sirloin, marinated hangar steak, chicken Pomodoro, vegetarian moussaka, and brook trout “tagine.”

Zaitz says, “We took items we ran as specials over the last year that customers would ask about and made them a permanent part of our menu and then I created the ‘after 5’ which is really upgraded and the presentation at dinner will be really special.”

It was just over a year ago, the restaurant began serving beer featuring local favorites such as Blackstone Session IPA, Left Hand Brewing Nitro Milk Stout, along with Stella Artois just to name a few. Wine and liquor will soon be added to the menu with plans to offer wine pairing dinners.

Zaitz is a 35-year veteran Chef, working in the hotel industry serving as chef at the Peabody Hotel for an extended period of time and chef at the boutique Indigo Hotel in Nashville. Zaitz also served as chef at Nashville restaurant Epic. Sharing more about the name, Zaitz says he’s been experimenting with skewer presentations of their food to create what he hopes is a whole eating experience.

“Having fun with the presentation is what Le Skewer is all about,” says Zaitz.

“We believe in our food,” said Ghada. “So many people are interested in what they put in their body and everything here is made from scratch.”

Zaitz and Fawaz said they want Le Skewer to be a place where locals want to come and hang out, enjoy the live music each Friday and Saturday night which runs 6 p – 8:30 p, and try the new items.

“I love people, I grew up in a home where people were always coming for lunch or dinner, so  I enjoy the people here at the restaurant. At one point, I thought about returning to being an accountant but that thought only lasted a few minutes because I would miss the people,” said Fawaz.

Le Skewer is located in the Brentwood Place Shopping Center, 330 Franklin Road, Brentwood. Hours of operation are Monday – Thursday 11 a – 8 p, Friday- Saturday 11 a – 9 p, and Sunday 11 a – 3 p.
