Local Chef Featured on New Bravo Cooking Show

Bravo TV

Bravo Media cooks up a battle of secrets and knives in its newest culinary competition series “Recipe for Deception” where local chef, Matt Bolus, from Kitchen 404 in Nashville will appear on Thursday, Feb 11.

Judges Chris Oh and Jonathan Waxman join host Max Silvestri in this fast-paced and innovative competition show where a chef’s ability to lie is almost as important as their culinary skill. In each episode, Silvestri guides four new chefs through three head-to-head elimination rounds in which they are tasked with creating a stunning dish featuring a main ingredient. The twist is that they have no idea what that ingredient is while they are cooking.

Based on the popular parlor game “Two Truths and a Lie,” competing chefs ask each other three “yes or no” questions to determine what their mystery component is, and their opponent answers strategically with two truthful answers and one outright lie. Judges Oh and Waxman grade the chefs on their final dishes based on overall quality and how well they incorporate their secret ingredient. In the final round, eliminated chefs have a chance to scheme their way back into the competition by trading potentially valuable information about the undisclosed ingredient for a chance at the $10,000 prize.

“Bravo reached out to me asking if I would be interested in being a part of the show,” said Matt Bolus, “It is also interesting that Jonathan Waxman, owner of Adele’s just down the road from us is on the other side of the table.”

When talking about the amount of work involved in filming a one hour show, Bolus says “There was days of taping from the interview to set-up and prep, a very fun but exhausting experience.”

“The way the show works, you start cooking  having no idea what ingredient they would be giving to you,and the kitchen was so well stocked you almost had too many choices!” said Matt Bolus “This show is like none I’ve ever seen before.”

Bolus could not reveal to us what ingredient he was given nor could he give us the outcome.  We did ask if it might be an item added to the menu to which he replied, maybe if it is in season and  I had the time to re-do it the way I want.
