With a graduation rate of 95.6% and an average ACT Composite of 25.2 (outperforming the state average of 20.1), Williamson County Schools has become known for having one of the best school systems in the state.
For county mayor candidate Kenneth Eaton, keeping Williamson County Schools performing at their best is a top priority. For him, this means looking at things through a business perspective.
As mayor, Eaton wants to “put tax dollars in the appropriate places.” As that relates to schools, Eaton opposes raising taxes to fund schools.
“Schools and transportation should be funded through the current tax structure. We should not have to raise taxes every time we need to build a school,” he says.
In addition, while he believes schools need to be properly funded, he says “funding should go to teachers and students, not more administrative staff.”
Overall, Eaton’s message is accountability, something he has learned a lot about over the years as a businessman. Eaton has owned several car dealerships, with sales in excess of $75 million and he has invested in real estate, with over $20 million in transactions in the last 10 years.
“There must be accountability in the budget process.”
