How to Style a Vest this Winter

This winter, the sleeveless vest is a trend that we don’t see slowing down. Built to survive through all four seasons, vests can be worn year-round and come in a wide variety of styles and textures, from warm, cozy down to long, knit dusters. Here we’ve gathered our favorite picks that will surely add a trendy touch to your otherwise ordinary winter outerwear.

Fur

Faux fur is very “in” this season in many forms, especially as a hip and feminine vest. We’re seeing mostly cream and tan vest mixtures along with shaggy pastel versions and even some fur vests that appear almost feather like. Wear yours atop a flowing blouse, tucked into jeans and boots. Or, for a very sophisticated work look, try a leather belt over a fur vest, sweater and pencil skirt.

Duster

Look out, long coat! Your sleeveless, hipster cousin is in town. From casual knit styles to preppy wool to chic silken versions for a night out on the town, these lengthy vests graze the calf, knee or bottom and can button, tie or just hang loose. Fling a duster vest atop nearly anything, from a dress to leggings to flared jeans. To keep your look modern and tidy, make sure the duster is form fitting and wear with either high heel boots or pumps.

Puffer

The cozy puffer vest is back, and is much more versatile than you might think. For a more casual look, choose one in a bright, bold color. For a chic look, choose a satiny black (which will literally go well with anything!). We love quilted puffer vests too, especially in white, beige, or olive. Try putting your puffer vest over a thin turtleneck and cute pair of slacks, or even underneath a heavier coat for added warmth. Or, wear it over a thick sweater with a skirt and tights, or try it with a flannel button-down, hoodie, or atop your favorite activewear. Today’s varieties of puffers are much more sleek and less bulky, so there’s little fear of appearing too “fluffy.”
