Grassland Middle School Student Wins in Doodle 4 Google

I am sure it was a huge surprise for Nicolas Ma when he went to assembly and found out he was the state winner of the “Doodle 4 Google” 2013 competition. To Google a “doodle” is the logo design that appears on www.google.com periodically to celebrate special events, holidays, or the lives of artists and inventors. Ma’s illustration named “A Trip to Planet Z,” won great recognition.

The “Doodle 4 Google” is a competition open to all K-12 students in the U.S. to create their own Google doodle. The winners were announced on the Google official Blog and announcements went out to all major news agencies.

During that assembly Google also explained some of the new ways students can learn and explore, demonstrating how to speak a different language in seconds, travel to the top of Mt. Everest, walk through the Louvre and explore Mars.

Last year there were more than 114,000 submissions so Ma’s accomplishment is a big deal. The theme this year was “My Best Day Ever…” and it was chosen to inspire minds to come up with something special. Ma’s work will be displayed at the American Museum of Natural History in New York from May 22nd through July 14th.

Each of the 50 State Winners won a trip to New York City for the final awards ceremony on May 22nd, and a t-shirt with their doodle printed on it.
