Fleet Feet Hosts Karen Harvey Series

For the first time, Fleet Feet will host Karen Harvey, an elite distance runner, for  a series of classes at Fleet Feet Sports. Harvey is one of the top runners in Canadian distance running history and spent over 13 years coaching some of the top cross country and track teams in the NCAA.

The first class will focus on the mental aspects of running, motivation, and goal setting. The class is called “The Mental Game – Thirteen Years of Observation” and is open to athletes, runners, and walkers of all ages and speed.

The class will include:

  • Mental preparation strategies
  • LOTS of stories about former athletes and teams that overcame their fears
  • Individual vs team approaches
  • Motivation
  • The importance of proper goal setting
  • TED talk (video footage) that sums up the lecture

Karen Harvey is a native of Paris, Ontario, Canada. She competed collegiately for the University of Michigan from 1991-1995, and was a nine-time member of the Canadian national team

While representing Adidas in 1998 she was ranked No. 1 in the world in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, and in 2000 she set a Canadian record in the 3000 meter steeplechase (10:14.27).

Karen ran her first and only marathon in 2011 at the Tallahassee Marathon, winning in 2:43.

Currently, Karen works for a non-profit Christian Residential Program called Mercy Multiplied in Nashville.
