Fightin’ Irish Face MBA Friday

Williamson County FootballBy: David Wells

After coming off a bye week, Father Ryan will return to action Friday night to play MBA.

The Fightin’ Irish are 4-2 after winning 49-16 in a Sept. 27 matchup against Stratford. In that game, running backs Joseph Holzmer and Dekeivis Perry led a rushing attack that gained 347 yards.

That rushing attack will be key against MBA, which was undefeated before falling to Ensworth 35-31 in Week 6, as will the turnover battle. Ensworth intercepted three MBA passes while surrendering no picks of its own.

If anyone on Father Ryan’s defense is going to do that, it is Andrew Rector. He currently has five interceptions for 16 yards, as many picks as the rest of the defense combined.

Father Ryan will also look to get pressure on quarterback Cole Euverard, who is 44-for-83 on the season for 742 yards and eight touchdowns.

Fightin’ Irish quarterback Cameron Towns was quiet against Statford, going 4 of 7 for an interception and 93 yards. On the season, he has completed 34 of his 82 passes, thrown four interceptions and tossed five touchdowns.

Kickoff is Friday night at 7 p.m. at Father Ryan.
