(COLUMBIA, TN) — The 19th ranked Chargers have already locked up the TCCAA Championship but still played a regular season double-header with Wallace State in Columbia, Tennessee.

In game one CSCC got down early when they gave up a run in the third inning and the deficit doubled in the top of the fifth when Wallace State added one more.

All season Columbia State had made scoring runs seem easy, but today they were struggling to get a batter around the full 360 feet. That was until they only had six outs to play with.

In the sixth inning, Sam Few singled to left scoring Tyler Fullerton to cut the Wallace State to 2-1. Then with one out, Isaiah Aluko hit one back to the pitcher that went as an infield single, scoring Alex Aguila and tying the game at two.

The Chargers saved the game winning run for the following frame. Alex Aguila’s only at bat resulted in a walk off base hit as he singled to left with the bases loaded.

Game two was a little bit easier for the home team.

Paul Kirby’s double highlighted a three run first for the Chargers. CSCC would add a 4th run in the second inning on a Tyler Fullerton single and they were well on their way to finishing out the regular season on a good note.

Wallace State got two back in the fourth but that’s the closest the visitors would get to catching Columbia State.

The double-header sweep means the Chargers finish the regular season 36-11 and will finish the regular season ranked in the NJCAA’s Top 20.

The Chargers earned a East Central District Tournament birth on Friday. That tournament will take place in May but first they host Roane State in a best 2 of 3 series this weekend. The winner of the series will qualify for the NJCAA Region 7 Championship, which is set to take place May 2nd at Volunteer State.
