City of Franklin Hosts Second Housing Summit

The City of Franklin along with Mayor Ken Moore is inviting the citizens of Franklin to the second Franklin Housing Summit, Wednesday, February 25th at 8:00 a.m. until noon at the Cool Springs Marriott.  The summit will include a continental breakfast at 7:30.  Seating will be limited to 150 guests who RSVP to [email protected]. Limited spaces are available, so register now!

The summit will provide participants from the community a forum to share their ideas and expectations with elected officials on the future of housing in Franklin so they can begin implementing strategies that achieve the desired mix of housing.

“We had such an overwhelming response to the first summit, we are holding this second summit to accommodate all those who wanted to attend, but could not due to space.  We want to hear from every citizen who is interested,” said Mayor Ken Moore.

In late 2013, the City of Franklin employed BBC Research and Consulting Company to conduct a housing needs analysis and prepare a housing plan to assist decision makers, stakeholders, and citizens with understanding key housing issues in the City.  In early 2013 BBC released the outcomes of the study which included a series of meetings with stakeholder groups and the public.  Participants in the Housing Summit will be sent a copy of the findings prior to the summit for their review.  The housing analysis can also be found on the City Website here.

Some of the strategies recommended in the analysis are to strengthen the City’s inclusionary zoning ordinance, develop more dense, mixed-income communities and to encourage development in areas where existing infrastructure already exists.
