Judd BazzelA Scooby Doo van seen on Hillsboro Road in Grassland has been drawing a lot of  attention.  We got the opportunity to sit down with Judd of StarBase 1552 Comics to learn more about the Scooby Doo Van, the new comic store opening soon, and what his favorite comics are.

1.

We have to know, do you really drive the Scooby Doo Van?
Yes- we drive the Scooby van. In fact, we just got back from Louisville, KY where we set up at Fandomfest, a 3 day pop culture convention. We were lucky enough to get a private signing with Carrie “Princess Leia” Fisher while there; she signed a ton of Star Wars comics for me. I’ll have those in the shop once we open in October. Next week, the Scooby van will be headed to Chicago for Wizard World, another pop culture convention that draws 40-50k people during its 4 days.

2

What made you decide to open a comic store?
I’ve always had a passion for comics. I learned to read with a GI Joe comic book and record set as a kid. It is hard enough to get kids off their phones to do anything these days so if I can help them to discover comics then I’ve done a good thing.

3

Will your comic store be one where you can buy and sell?

I will indeed buy, sell and trade old and new comics. It is my intention to be a store that caters to the hard-core, high-end collector as well as someone who knows very little about comics.

4

What are your favorite titles of comics?

Right now I’m really enjoying Big Trouble in Little China by Eric Powell, a comic artist who lives here in Nashville. It is based on the movie of the same name. I also look forward to reading the new Star Wars comics each month.

5

Tell us what your store will offer?

I’ll be offering a full line of products- comics (old and new), trade paperbacks, DVDs, comic collecting supplies, posters, toys, and autographs.
