This just goes to show, beauty is more than skin deep.
The students of Summit High School raised over $1,000 for Habitat for Humanity, hosting the First Annual Mr. SHS all-male beauty pageant and talent show on January 9th.
The pageant featured male students and staff poking fun at traditional beauty pageants by dressing up and competing in the categories of beachwear, formal wear, interview and talent.
Opening with an all-male, dance routine, choreographed by Summit cheerleaders, the contestants decked out in jeans, white tees and pink camouflage bandannas to strut their stuff to pop hits in front of a roaring crowd.
And of course, there was the interview portion of the contest.
Boys and male teachers elegantly took the stage answering interview questions like, “What woman in history has had the greatest influence on your life and how do you strive to be like her?”
In the end, it was Gunnar Vantrease who took home the crown. The football all-star was wearing a decadent teal evening gown. And his successor and first runner-up Collin Hensel is a sophomore soccer player at Summit.
“This was a great fundraiser because we had fun with our friends and got to help another family at the same time,” noted Hensel.
Habitat Club member Rielly Bethmann noted what a good time the experience was.
“It was really funny. I was proud of all our guys for putting it out there and doing something good. Gunnar’s ribbon dance will be remembered forever.”
It looks like laughter really does heal the soul, and even builds a house.
Club co-sponsor and Summit English teacher Deborah Bohn said, “It was a hilarious evening of fun for a great cause. Every penny we raised will buy materials to build a new home for a deserving family in Williamson County.”
