Enjoy a Mayday This Weekend

In case you have not heard, the new local brewery in Murfreesboro is taking Tennessee by storm. Mayday Brewery opened last year after a two year wait and now they are sending their brews to Williamson County. Follow them on Facebook to keep track of everywhere you can find Mayday beers.

Lee “Ozzy” and Pam Nelson want you to get to know their team and the brewery. “You can buy good beer anywhere (almost). But we want to have good beer and to connect with the people,” said Ozzy.

Belly dancer Nicole Hanna spun and cut the ribbon in the blink of an eye with the sword which had been balanced on her head during her dance. “Anyone can brew beer, not everyone is willing to talk or get out there and be a friend to those people who are paying for them to do what they love. We are those crazy people,” Ozzy continued.

Four distinctive ales are available from Mayday and can be found locally at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant, Whole Foods on McEwen and in Brentwood at Sportsman’s Lodge and Stogies Ales & Fine Cigars.

My personal favorite is the Angry Redhead. She is unpredictable, feisty and out to have her way. Watch out as this girl is a high gravity 6 percent alcohol fire starter. Beguiling you with her hint of spice then leaving you on the floor wondering where she and your paycheck went.

Also available are the Boro Blonde, the Velvet Hustle and the Evil Octopus.

The Evil Octopus is a dark frothy ale remembered by the lasting flavor of currant. Smooth and filling with a nice head and a superb finish, the Evil Octopus is most definitely a pirate’s favorite. Be careful treading these waters as the 6.2 percent alcohol content is not recommended for simple yeomen or ninjas.
