Robert Houston Underwood (June 29, 1935), a retired employee of the State with the Department of Human Services, former benevolence servant for Crieve Hall Church of Christ, Father, Grandfather, and faithful husband, passed peacefully from this life to the next last Friday, April 12, 2024.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, W.H. Underwood, and his mother, Ruth Redmond Underwood, his first wife, Lurleen Patrick Underwood, and his second wife, Barbara Jean Underwood.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Underwood Swinea (Jerry), his stepson, Kevin Stinson, and his stepdaughter, Maria Holland (Kell). He is survived by 5 grandchildren, Katie Swinea, Emmy Swinea, Whitney Ellis (Brady), Brandon Holland (Hannah), and Drew Holland (Anna), and 4 great-grandchildren, Liam, Jackson, and Lincoln Ellis, and Stella Holland.

A native of Rutherford County and Rockvale, TN, Robert received his undergraduate from MTSU & his Masters from UT in Social Work. He has been a member of Crieve Hall Church of Christ since the 1960’s and has faithfully served there.

He loved people well and was dearly loved by all who knew him. His greatest treasure on this earth was his family and the Lord Jesus Christ. He lived his life in service to others. He was dearly loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Service is at the graveside at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024. Visitation is Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel, 615-331-1952. https://www.woodbinefuneralhome.com
