Juvenile Judge Sharon Guffee Supports Parenting Course

“A common problem in many cases that comes before the court is parents and teens struggling to communicate,” said Juvenile Judge Sharon Guffee. To help this issue the court has partnered with Dr. James Wellborn, PhD to offer a Parenting 101 course on one Saturday of each month. Classes are held from 8 a.m. to Noon and available dates are listed on the website.

This seminar is a bit different as you bring your teen with you and you both participate. “There is something very meaningful about having teens in the same seminar with their parents,” says Dr. Wellborn, “they get to practice the strategies I give them right there.” Wellborn is the author of Raising Teens in the 21st Century, and has been practicing psychology for more than 20 years locally.

“Raising teenagers can be challenging today,” said Judge Guffee, “and this seminar will provide parents with valuable tools to improve communication.  I encourage all parents raising a teenage child to participate in this seminar.” The hope is to prevent some teens from ever being involved in the juvenile court system.

Upon completion of the class parents get a certificate proving they are highly trained and that they have had at least one satisfying conversation with their teen. What more can you ask for? Take a look into the course online, registration is required. The next session is Saturday, July 20th at the Williamson County Public Library on Columbia Avenue.
