How to Makeover a Dark Foyer?

The entrance of a home speaks volumes about the family who lives inside. It’s the first impression that tells guests about your style, personality, and story. We often times focus on the main living areas and kitchen while forgetting the importance of the welcome center of the home. It gives an indication of what’s ahead. Whether it’s large or small, the entrance should be bright, tidy, and inviting.

In this home we see a foyer that is tan with dark chocolate brown below the chair rail. The craftsman-style door is also dark brown. The floors are  dark brown. Do you see a theme here? The swath of  dark brown keep the space dark and small. So, we decided to paint the interior of the front door and below the chair rail in Benjamin Moore’s White Dove to brighten and calm the space. The difference is dramatic. The light coming through the glass bounces off the white paint giving the appearance of a brighter, larger space. We added a touch of color in the corner, removed the old runners, and added a neutral gray and white rug by the door. Keeping things clean and simple in a small space is always a good rule of thumb.

Do these simple steps have you re-thinking your foyer entrance? Spring is the perfect time to make a change from the tired and predictable to light and bright!
