Contemporary Christian band MercyMe kicks off the “MercyMe Live” Tour uniting the band with Tenth Avenue North alongside Tim Timmons for a three-month stretch. The tour will make a stop in Nashville at the Ryman on Sunday evening with just a few tickets remaining to the show.
Earlier this week, the band took a break from touring to premiere the “I Can Only Imagine” movie in Nashville. The movie is a true story based on the life of MercyMe lead singer, Bart Millard who wrote the mega-hit song “I Can Only Imagine” after the loss of his father to cancer. “I Can Only Imagine” is a gripping reminder of the power of forgiveness and beautifully illustrates that no one is ever too far from second chances.
Actor Dennis Quaid who has played the role of a father in movies such as ‘Soul Surfer’ and ‘In Good Company’ plays the part of Arthur Millard, Bart Millard’s father in the movie. We spoke to Dennis about this transformative role and how it was different from ones he played in the past, “I don’t know if it was transformative. I learn a lot from … I learn from everything that I do, from every character because I’m interested in people. I would just say I’m very inspired walking away. This is what I took from this role. ”
Country music fans will get a glimpse of Trace Adkins in the film as well who plays the role of Scott Brickell, music manager of MercyMe.
Watch our video below where we spoke to Bart Millard about seeing his life story portrayed on screen. “I Can Only Imagine” will be shown at Thoroughbred 20 in Franklin beginning March 15. See the complete showtimes here.
On Friday, MercyMe released a new album titled I Can Only Imagine The Very Best Of MercyMe which includes a remake of “I Can Only Imagine” from the movie which is available for purchase on Amazon.
