Franklin Jump Rope Team Earns 35 Medals at National Championship

The Hot Shots of Tennessee jump rope team, based in Franklin, brought home some serious hardware from the American Jump Rope Federation National Championship held in Raleigh from June 21-23. The team’s 15 competitors brought home a total of 35 medals.

Fifteen of the Hot Shots’ freestyle routines and speed performances qualified to advance to the Grand National Championship on the final day of competition. To qualify for Grand Nationals in a freestyle event, jumpers’ scores must be in the top 10 overall scores, regardless of age division; in a speed event, jumpers’ scores must be in the top 6 overall scores, regardless of age.

Wheel is a style of jump rope that includes two people with two ropes, both jumping but sharing different rope handles.

A triple under is when the rope passes under the jumper’s feet 3 times per jump.

3rd place – Single Rope Speed Relay, Senior Division, Mixed 18 and older

In this event, each of the four athletes jumps for 30 seconds, one after the other in relay style, for a total of two minutes.

Six of the Hot Shots are competing at the 2019 World Jump Rope Championship in Oslofjord, Norway, taking place now through July 8.

Members of the 2019 Hot Shots competition team attend Hunters Bend Elementary School, Grassland Middle School, Spring Station Middle School, Franklin High School, and the University of Central Florida. The Hot Shots are coached by Lisa Arnold. Members of the team have previously earned gold medals at the World Jump Rope Championship, appeared on the nationally syndicated Pickler & Ben television show, and represented the sport of jump rope at The Arnold Sports Festival USA, also known as the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival.
