Summit and Centennial High Schools will take the field Friday night in a game that could decide their respective fates for the rest of the season.

For Centennial (2-2, 1-0 District 11-AAA), a victory Friday night would give the Cougars a winning record for the first time this season after losing their first two games of the year. Summit (1-3, 0-1), meanwhile, is looking for its first win since a season-opening victory over Spring Hill.

Centennial will once again rely on its star running back Deon Sanders to carry the offensive load; however, if the Cougars’ Week-3 win over Clarksville was any indication, the Cougars have other offensive weapons at their disposal.

Once again, Sanders provided the foundation for the Centennial offense with his 152 rushing yards. But it was Owen Roth’s four touchdown passes to Emmanuel Hall that made the difference in that game.

And while Centennial’s rushing defense is still surrendering big plays, such as the 67-yard touchdown that put the Cougars down early, the offense has picked up the slack as of late.

To win this game, Summit simply needs to put more points up on the board. In their last three games, the Spartans have scored three touchdowns while surrendering 97 points, 56 of which came against Independence High School

In Friday’s 14-7 loss against West Creek, the offense had 341 total yards—including quarterback Dee Hunter’s 236 all-purpose yards—but the Spartans could only come away with a single touchdown in the first half.

Kickoff is Friday night at Summit at 7 p.m.
