5 Things You Missed At Studio Tenn’s The Wizard of Oz Production

Studio Tenn wrapped its season with a short run of the The Wizard of Oz at the Schermerhorn in Nashville. Due to popularity of The Wizard of Oz, they added an additional show on Sunday evening at 7pm for those who didn’t get a ticket to the earlier Saturday performances or Sunday afternoon show. If you were unable to attend the show, here are the five things you missed.

1.  Nashville Symphony was literally front and center during the performance of the Wizard of Oz.  At first glance, you might think it would be distracting, but it actually wasn’t at all.

2. You’ve seen the pictures of the costumes but those pictures do not do the costumes justice – Dorothy, played by Diana DeGarmo, mentions her slippers but her shoes were far from slippers, more like 4 inch stellitos with red sequins.Did we mention Glenda the Good Witch? Played by Megan Murphy Chambers, her costume was mesmerizing along with the pink hair, I think we may see some girls dying their hair pink after this show.

3. Moments of Humor – If you are a parent of a child who attend many a Disney movie, you appreciate  the moments of adult humor. Matt Logan added in a few inside jokes to the show that you had to be there to capture the moment. The lion himself took on a Jersey-guy personality and he definitely stole the show at several moments.

4. It was a multi-media event – Adding to the set, there was a large screen with ever changing pictures that changed with the scene changes.  It even featured Oz until, well you know the rest of the story.

5. Studio Tenn announced next season’s shows with you guessed it, another field trip to the Schermerhorn.  Next season, will focus on a season of mid century masters: One Night Only Gala, Gypsy, Back again-It’s A Wonderful Life, newly added- Holiday Concert in December, West Side Story, The Glass Menagarie, Legacy Series continues with Ray Charles.

We can’t finish this list with a mention of the MUNCHKINS!!! There  were 42 students from the Theater Bug that stole the crowds heart as they sang and danced.

Take a look at the photo gallery from the performance. Don’t delay in purchasing your tickets for next season. Go to Studio Tenn’s website to purchase tickets.
