Just one more reason you should attend this year’s Heritage Ball, the Heritage Pear. This tasty concoction was created especially for the event by Burger Up Cool Springs General Manager and Mixologist Ross Powells. This Saturday night pears from the grounds of Carnton Plantation will flavor the signature drink for the gala.
Four years ago pear trees were planted at Carnton by Justin Stelter. “The ‘Kieffer’ Pear was discovered around 1860, and continues to be popular in the South because they are disease- and insect-resistant, and are self-fruiting,” said Stelter, who has restored the historic gardens at Carnton and at The Hermitage, home of Andrew Jackson, in Nashville. “They flower white in the spring, and the fruit ripens to a beautiful golden hue in late August or September.”

“Pear is a really nice fall flavor, and it lends itself to making a great cocktail,” said Powells. “This drink is not too sweet. It has a good balance, a little bubble on top and fits perfectly with such a beautiful September event.” At the base of this drink is Heroes Vodka and portions of the proceeds for its sale go to support veterans. Other ingredients include Brillet Pear Liqueur, Emeri Sparkling Sauvignon Blanc, and the syrup created from Carnton pears created by Powells.
Heritage Ball Chair Jennifer Parker participated in a recent tasting, and says the concept is just another illustration of the Heritage Foundation’s focus on preserving the things that matter. “This event is about celebrating our history and our efforts to preserve it,” said Parker. “The Ball is being held on the ground where these pears were grown, and it’s a perfect tie-in with the harvest season and our farm-to-table menu. It’s extra special that we can support Heroes as a local brand and give back in some small way to our veterans.”

Jennifer is a former marketing executive and now owns Parker Communications Consulting. She designed a partnership with Mars Pet Care and Carrie Underwood resulting in a tour that was sponsored by Pedigree dog food and raised money for animal shelters in the U.S. Her Husband Jamey is also chairing and is vice-president and financial advisor with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in Cool Springs. He is passionate about working with the community and served as board president for CASA in Williamson County, is active in the Noon Rotary and the Williamson County Medical Foundation.
The ball benefits the Heritage Foundation of Franklin & Williamson County. ” We are both so proud to be residents of Franklin and Williamson County, and we’re constantly reminded of how important preservation is to the quality of life in our community,” Jennifer said. “This Ball team is full of talented people who each bring something to the table, and we’re working together to raise funds that will help ensure that future generations can feel the same benefit from our historic treasures.”
Angela Calhoun returns as design chair the position she held last year. She has served on the board for historic Carnton Plantation and is a founding board member of Franklin’s Charge. She has done interior design in Franklin, Los Angeles and brings years of experience in event planning and implementation to the team. “I am honored to be a part of this event and the Heritage Foundation that contributes so much to this community,” she said. List year will also see the return of the farm-to-table supper concept. Local farmers and chefs will bring a one-of-a-kind, multi-course meal to the table for attendees.
