A Sunset Middle student represented her school at the national level this summer.
Eighth grader Aditi Venmani traveled to Orlando to compete in the Junior Beta National Convention after placing first in the Speech Junior category at the State level. She placed fifth in the same category at the national level. Her teachers are Michelle Shafer, Virginia King and Elliot Jones.
“It was an amazing experience traveling to Orlando for the national convention,” Aditi said. “I had the opportunity to witness some spellbinding performances delivered by students from all around the country in speech and several other categories. The school teams campaigning for the presidential and vice-presidential position were my personal favorite. I witnessed great team effort by teams campaigning for their candidates.”
Aditi’s classmate, Nishad Mulay, placed fifth in the Color Photography Junior category at the State level. Fairview High’s Brooklyn Cox placed third in the Performing Arts Senior – Solo, Duo, Trio – Dancer category at the State level. Fairview High’s Beta Club sponsors are David Shepherd and Jeffrey Angell.
To join the Beta Club, students must show high academic achievement, character and social responsibility and involvement in their school and community.
“I decided to join Beta to have the opportunity to develop my leadership skills and give back to my community through volunteering,” Aditi said. “The best thing about Beta Club is its mission: members aim to not only assist the community but to also inspire others to join in and contribute. The spirit of collaboration is essential because there is strength in numbers.”
