Ravenwood High senior Joe Roebuck is proving that math and science aren’t the only outlets for gifted students.

Joe was recognized by the Tennessee Association for the Gifted as the Gifted Student of the Year at the October 27-28 conference.

Joe’s skills in business and entrepreneurship earned him the honor. After seeing a problem with rain and flooding on the way to Ravenwood High, Joe took the initiative to work with his Advanced Placement (AP) Environmental Science teacher, principal and fellow students to create a rain garden.

“I have enjoyed watching Joe’s enthusiasm and ability to solve and create solutions to problems,” said RHS Principal Dr. Pam Vaden. “Every day I come to school, I appreciate his leadership because where there once was an eyesore there is now a beautiful rain garden.”

Joe currently has an internship with Hytch.Me, a startup company aiming to reduce air pollution. He is the spokesperson and runs the social media.

Joe received a monetary award as well as a certificate of excellence to commemorate his achievement.
