ISR — How 10 Minutes Can Save A Life

We’ve all heard how important it is to learn CPR and First Aid so that we can be of assistance in an emergency, but have you heard of ISR? ISR stands for Infant Swimming Rescue, a nationally recognized program designed to teach infants and toddlers key survival swimming techniques.

isr“According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the number one cause of accidental death for infants and young children between the ages of 1-4,” reports ISR’s website.

Safety precautions, such as pool fences, pool alarms and constant supervision when children are near water is wonderful, but not enough. Accidents happen and children are curious, which is why ISR is designed to teach children survival techniques that could save their life.

In this program, children will learn skills appropriate to their age. For example, children 6 months to 1 year, learn to roll on their back, float and breath until help arrives. Children 1-6 years of age will learn how to swim until they need air, roll onto their back to rest and then continue swimming to safety.

Classes are typically 4-6 weeks. Swimmers will meet with their instructor 5 days a week for only 10 minutes. Classes are intended for children 6 months to 6 years of age.

Instructors are available in Williamson County. Contact Ramona Batt at [email protected] or Kennette Pyles at [email protected] to enroll your child. Instructors teach in private pools, as well as facilities. Currently, classes are available at Prairie Life in Cool Springs and the Maryland Farms YMCA.

This is the perfect time of year to enroll in ISR.  Please visit www.infantswimlessons.com to learn more about this life saving program.
