Independence High Assistant Principal Dr. Kurt Jones has been selected to lead Fairview High School next year. Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney made the announcement Friday. Jones replaces Dr. Juli Oyer who was named Executive Director of Secondary Schools last week.

“Kurt has a passion for seeing students succeed in academics, athletics and the arts,” said Looney. “He understands my expectation for excellence in the Fairview community, and I believe he will work to provide opportunities for all Fairview High students.”

Jones began his career in Williamson County Schools 16 years ago as a teacher and coach at Franklin High. He was named an assistant principal and athletic director at Independence High in 2008.

The Oklahoma native says he’s excited to return to a school that reminds him of the one he attended. “I grew up in a rural community and there were 55 of us in my high school graduating class,” said Jones. “There’s something special about a community where the school is the center point, and I look forward to working with the students, parents, teachers, staff and greater Fairview community to grow and develop young adults into successful citizens.”

Jones earned his Bachelor’s in Biological Education from the University of Central Oklahoma; his Master’s in Educational Leadership for Trevecca Nazarene University; and his Doctorate of Education in Learning Organizations and Strategic Change from Lipscomb University.

Jones will begin his new role July 1.
