BBB Alerts Local Businesses About Universal Adcom Company

scam alert

BBB alerts Middle Tennessee businesses to the deceptive sales practices of Universal Adcom aka Premier Impressions, Hometown Productions, and Premier Map, located in Arlington, Texas. A variety of other business names, such as D & L Map Service, Fanfare Sport Marketing and Scoreboard Productions and an additional location in Peoria, Illinois have also been used by representatives, which all link back to the Arlington, TX location.

Business owners contacting BBB indicate the company targets local companies offering advertising for products such as maps, directories, magnets, t-shirts, etc., and are led to believe the advertising opportunity is offered “in cooperation with”, “on behalf of”, or “working with” the Chamber of Commerce, a local high school, or local police, fire or other civic organizations.

BBB has received nearly 200 complaints that allege the company billed for orders not placed; misrepresented its affiliation; conducted harassing and deceptive sales calls; non-receipt of product or poor product quality; and refusal to remove businesses from calling lists. BBB offers the following general advice for businesses considering advertising with an unknown company:

  • Always check out the trustworthiness of the company at BBB.org before doing business with them.
  • Be sure to obtain the name, address, and telephone number for the company with whom you are considering doing business. In the event of a dispute or question, you will know how to contact them.
  • Verify any claimed affiliations.
  • Never pay in advance. Be certain you know to whom you are providing account information if rendering payment electronically.
  • Get all agreements and commitments in writing. Carefully read and understand all agreements before signing.
  • Ask how many of the products will be distributed. Ask what the method of product distribution will be. Will there be an organized effort to distribute the product to the community?
  • What happens if an insufficient amount of advertising is sold? Will refunds be available, and how do you obtain them?
