Chili You Can Eat in The Fork

As the fall breezes begin to blow, the little village in Leiper’s Fork will heat up Saturday, Oct. 19 with the return of the 13th Annual Chili in the Fork. From Noon to 4 p.m., patrons can sample chili from local landmark restaurants Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant of Leiper’s Fork, Country Boy Restaurant and Joe Natural’s Farm Store & Café.

CHILI POSTERwebSet on the grounds of the Lawn Chair Theatre behind Leiper’s Creek Gallery, all-day live music will provide entertainment for chili eaters, who are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. The stage will be rocking with tunes from Loco Vibrato, a gringo jazz and cowboy instrumental band; progressive country blues provided by The Austin Brothers; and country rock and bluegrass by local favorites Raven Cliff.

Chili, served in a $2 cup or $5 bowl, will be served in each participating restaurant and on the Theatre grounds.

The event, designed to show off the culinary expertise, offers patrons an inside taste of the restaurants. Eatery owners say they’ve been cooking up the chili recipes for weeks, and that each reflects its restaurant’s philosophy.

Puckett’s (Leiper’s Fork) owner Rob Robinson says the Puckett’s chili will be “a mixture of country and blues, with a little Zydeco thrown in,” while Joe Natural’s Farm Store & Café will serve “three kinds: pork, local beef and vegetarian chili.” Though Country Boy Restaurant says it’s been plotting its ingredients for several weeks, the eatery is holding its cards close to the vest.

The music event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring finely honed taste buds and friends to celebrate the 13th Annual Chili in the Fork. For additional information, visit www.visitleipersfork.com.
