A new Kroger recently opened in Brentwood at 210 Franklin Road, expanding a former Harris Teeter building. As the new Kroger opened, a Kroger about 1/2 a mile down Franklin Road at 300 Franklin Road–in the Brentwood Place shopping area– closed. But the former Kroger building won’t be vacant long, Stein Mart will be moving back to Brentwood Place.
During a recent City of Brentwood Planning Commission meeting, Dollar and Ewers Architecture, Inc. requested approval of a revised plan for a portion of the former Kroger space in Brentwood Place. Stein Mart will be moving into a portion of the space occupying an area of 34,950 square feet. The total area of the vacant space is 65,450 square feet.
Just two years ago, Stein Mart moved out of Brentwood Place and Nordstrom Rack opened in their location. When they vacated their Brentwood location, Stein Mart opened a new store in Cool Springs.
The only work to be performed on the store front is removal of the signage and patching and sealing the electrical and mounting connections. No other changes to the storefront are proposed as part of this application. There will be additional work required to the back of building which includes:
- Removal of the existing pole mounted transformers (3) and replace with a pad mounted transformer which will be screened
- Two new steel exit doors and stairs for emergency exit for SteinMart
- Existing exit door and stair to be removed and the opening infilled using CMU to match existing
- New solid waste enclosure with CMU wall and gate
- Install a new pad condensing unit for the new HVAC, which will also be screened
- New wood slats on the steel framed gates accessing the enclosed area
- Infill the existing openings with new block to match existing
- One new light fixture will be added, existing fixtures also to remain.
Kroger opened its new location at 210 Franklin Road with its grand opening held on Wednesday, March 16th. The 84,000 square foot store replaced the store at 300 Franklin Road and employs over 200 total associates when you count those who moved from the old store.
At this time there is no word yet on when the new Stein Mart location will be open or what other retailers will occupy the remaining space available.
