During CMA week, we had the pleasure to attend the red carpet premiere of the new Billy Ray Cyrus movie ‘Like A Country Song.’ We interviewed several of the cast, including Billy Ray Cyrus, Kerry Knuppe and Jennifer Wayne.
Now that you’ve seen what the actors had to say about the movie, here’s the scoop on ‘Like A Country Song.’
Keeping true to its title, the storyline is very much “like a country song,” highlighting a broken down country music singer, a pretty gal, an old flame, beer and juke joints with a hook that is riveting and tugs on your heart strings. In the end, it is a story about humility, forgiveness, and restoration of relationships.
One of the film’s themes is life experiences and the truth that ‘life happens.’ Up and coming country singer, Jake Reeson (played by Joel Smallbone) has the whole world before him. He can see grandeur in his future but could a secret from his past hold him back? As Jake struggles, it is a returning old flame (played by Kerry Knuppe) who keeps him grounded.
Tennesseans, particularly those in the Nashville and Franklin areas, will get a kick out of seeing lots of familiar places. The opening scene of the movie is the Nashville skyline, which brought the entire audience to applause on premiere night. Other sights to notice throughout the film are entertainment venues like The Listening Room Café, The Station Inn, music row sound/ production studio The Tater Shack, Kimbros Café, Riverbend Nurseries (Thompson Station), and The United Methodist Church of College Grove.
Supporting actors for ‘Like A Country A Song’ are not to be missed. BooBoo Stewart plays the part of Jake’s best buddy, Bobby. Stewart has appeared in such blockbusters as “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and the “Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I and Part II.”
Jennifer Bini Taylor plays the role of Jake Reeson’s mother. She is best known for her role as Chelsea Melini on the CBS sitcom “Two And a Half Men.” The role of Jake Reeson’s old flame is played by Kerry Knuppe who starred as Marlene in the series “Vegas.” Throughout the film, there are cameo appearances made by Larry Gaitlin, Clinton Gregory, Alexis Ebert, Phillip White, and Booboo Stewart’s sister, Fivel Stewart.
‘Like A Country Song’ has received great reviews for its positive strong messages:

“For anyone who has ever needed a second chance, this movie is for you. The movie title is based on a song about life being like a country song but this one shows that the negative can be turned around to the positive” (www.dove.org)
