Family Turns Tragedy Into Blessing for Many With Ty2 Foundation

Ty and Nancy Osmon with Waltrip, Ty2 Foundation

In March of 2012 Ty and Nancy Osman faced the unthinkable when they lost their son Ty.

Ty Osman II had a heart for helping others and was a light to everyone around him.  Even in his passing he was a gift to many as an organ donor.

“One of the blessings out of all of this tragedy was that his organs, bones, tissues and ligaments and all kinds of different parts of his body were able to be used to help other people,” Ty Osman said. “One of the really neat things is Nancy and I and our girls had chances to meet with some of those people, the recipients of those organs, and thats been a real blessing.”

“Ty was a generous guy with with his time, his  energy, his smile, with his life. Our family had actually started a little family foundation a year prior Ty’s accident to model biblical generosity for our kids. We decided to change the name of the foundation at that time to the Ty2 Foundation to honor his memory and legacy and his kindness and his generosity through the work that the foundation does.”

hometown heroesIn honor of the Osman’s inspiring story of how they have turned their tragedy into a blessing for so many and in support of the work they continue to do with the Ty2 Foundation they were recently honored as Darrell Waltrip Automotive Hometown Heroes.

“After he passed we heard so many stories about how just his regular kindness effected people,” shared Ty Jr.’s mother Nancy. “How his smiling and everyday manor made people feel special, and feel loved and seen. So that’s part of what our foundation wants to do, to just extend kindness to other people that are less fortunate and to inspire them to do good and seek God in their life. There have been days where we’ve wanted to have a pity party but God always sends something to let us know he’s still there and that carries us through.”

As a part of their award a $500 donation was made to the Ty2 Foundation.

“When I read their story it almost brought me to tears, when I read what happened to this family, to their son,” said Darrell Waltrip. “But it makes my heart feel good someone can take a tragedy like that and make something positive out of it. The motto of our Hometown Heroes event is ordinary people doing extraordinary things and that’s what Ty and Nancy have done.”
